Common questions

What is TRIPPSITTER?
TRIPPSITTER is a social travel platform for adults aged 18 and over. Members create trip plans with routes and dates, discover public trips, match with potential travel companions through a feature called Humsafar, coordinate in group and direct chats, and share travel posts. It is a place to meet and plan. It is not a travel agency, tour operator, transport provider, or accommodation provider.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Creating an account, planning trips, discovering public trips, matching with companions, messaging, and posting are free. There is an optional premium subscription that removes advertising and adds companion-matching features. You can use the core product indefinitely without paying.
Do I have to be 18 to join?
Yes. TRIPPSITTER is only for people aged 18 and over. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 18 we terminate it and delete the associated personal data. If you believe a minor has created an account, report it or email support@trippsitter.com.
What does a verified badge actually mean?
Verification is optional. A badge means that at the time of review a submitted identity document appeared facially valid and reasonably consistent with a submitted selfie. That is all. It is not a background check, a criminal-record check, a character reference, or any assurance that someone is safe or truthful. Documents can be forged or borrowed and reviewers can make mistakes. Never treat a badge as a reason to lower your own caution.
Does TRIPPSITTER run background checks on members?
No. We do not conduct criminal-record checks, sex-offender-registry checks, or any form of background screening on any member. We provide reporting, blocking, privacy controls, optional identity verification, and automated image moderation, but your safety when interacting with or meeting anyone remains your own responsibility. The Safety Center at /safety and the guides at /guides explain how to reduce risk in practice.
Who can see my profile, trips, and posts?
You control this. You can set your profile to private, which requires you to approve followers, and you can set each trip and post to public or restricted visibility. Public content may be visible to people without an account and may appear in search results. Private profiles, and content from accounts that are inactive or restricted, are excluded from public pages.
How does joining a public trip work?
Public trips are visible to anyone, including people without an account, so you can read the route, dates, and description before signing up. Sending a join request, messaging the host, or interacting with a trip requires an account. The host reviews and approves join requests. Being approved for a trip is not an endorsement of the host by TRIPPSITTER, and you should verify plans and people independently before paying for anything.
What is Humsafar?
Humsafar is our travel companion matching feature. Humsafar is Hindi and Urdu for travel companion. You set your travel preferences and see other members looking for companions, and a match is created when there is mutual interest. Matching is a discovery tool only. It does not imply that a person has been screened, and we make no guarantee about compatibility, character, or conduct.
How do I report or block someone?
Report and block controls are available on profiles, posts, comments, and chats. Blocking immediately stops someone contacting or interacting with you. For urgent safety concerns, email support@trippsitter.com with SAFETY in the subject line, including the username, any relevant link, dates, and a short description. Where it is safe, screenshot the relevant messages before you block, because blocking can remove your access to the conversation.
What happens after I submit a report?
Depending on severity and the information available, we may review the reported content or conversation, remove content, restrict features, suspend or remove the account, preserve records where legally required or permitted, and report unlawful conduct to the authorities. We act on a reasonable-effort basis and cannot guarantee a specific outcome or response time. The Community Guidelines at /community describe the process and how to appeal.
How is my content moderated?
Images you upload are checked automatically. A lightweight check may run in your browser as a first filter, and media is also scanned on our servers by a third-party moderation service for nudity, sexual content, and apparent child sexual abuse material. Content flagged as explicit may be blocked or removed. Suspected child sexual abuse material is quarantined, reviewed, preserved as evidence, and may be reported to law enforcement and child-safety authorities as required by law. Human review is limited to content that is flagged or reported.
Are my private messages read?
Messages are stored on our servers so they can be delivered and shown in your history. They are not used to target advertising and we do not sell message content. Our moderation team may access a conversation when it is reported to us. Voice and video calls are not recorded; we retain only metadata such as duration and timestamps.
Does TRIPPSITTER show ads, and can I turn them off?
We do not show third-party advertising by default. Where advertising is enabled it appears only on public editorial pages such as the guides, never in feeds, profiles, trips, chats, or any private communication screen. Advertising is served by Google AdSense and only after you consent through a separate prompt, which you can decline. Declining keeps advertising cookies off. A premium subscription also removes advertising.
How do I cancel a subscription or request a refund?
You can cancel automatic renewal at any time in your account settings or by emailing support@trippsitter.com. Cancelling stops future renewals and you keep premium access until the end of the current paid period. Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, though we may issue a refund for a duplicate or unauthorised charge, a technical billing error, or where required by law. The Refund and Cancellation Policy at /refund sets out how to request one.
How do I delete my account and data?
You can deactivate your account, which hides it but keeps it recoverable by logging back in, or request deletion. When you request deletion the account is immediately deactivated and hidden, then permanently deleted after a 30-day grace period. You can cancel a pending deletion during that period by logging in. After it completes, your profile, posts, trips, matches, and messages are erased from active systems and cannot be recovered. Backups are purged within 90 days. Some records, such as transaction data and material needed for safety or legal compliance, may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy.
What are my rights over my personal data?
You can request access to your data, correction of inaccurate data, erasure, and withdrawal of consent, and you can raise a grievance. If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, additional rights apply including objection, restriction, and data portability. Send requests to support@trippsitter.com, or grievance@trippsitter.com for a formal grievance, ideally from the email registered to your account. The Privacy Policy at /privacy sets out the detail and our response times.
I have found a factual error in one of your guides.
Please tell us. Email support@trippsitter.com with the page URL and what is wrong, and we will review it. Our editorial policy at /editorial-policy explains how the guides are produced, reviewed, and corrected, and confirms that we do not accept paid placement in editorial content.
Which countries is TRIPPSITTER available in?
The platform is operated from India and is primarily directed at users in India and other regions where we offer the service. It is reachable from elsewhere, but if you access it from outside those regions you do so on your own initiative and remain responsible for compliance with your local laws.

Still need help?

The contact directory at /contact lists the correct address for account and billing help, safety concerns, formal grievances, privacy requests, and law enforcement requests, along with what information to include so a request can be actioned without a round trip.

Do not send passwords, one-time codes, full payment card numbers, or identity documents that were not requested. If someone contacts you claiming to be TRIPPSITTER and asks for any of those, it is not us.

Emergencies

TRIPPSITTER cannot dispatch police, medical, or fire services. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. In India the integrated emergency number is 112, the women helpline is 1091, and the child helpline is 1098. Cyber-enabled offences and financial cyber fraud can be reported at cybercrime.gov.in, where acting quickly materially affects whether a transfer can be stopped.
